Orlegi Sports intensifies expansion in the United States

May 24, 2024

Orlegi Sports, owner of the football teams Club Santos Laguna, Atlas FC, and Real Sporting de Gijon, agreed at its last Board Meeting, as part of the Strategic Plan 2024-2030, to intensify its expansion and consolidation in the United States, where Orlegi USA has been operating since 2020.

Under the leadership of Alejandro Irarragorri, as global chairman, Orlegi Sports will continue to seek new horizons to generate value in various business areas, particularly in the sports industry in the United States.

Orlegi USA was created in 2020 with the purpose of developing the group’s global brands and services in a market of over 40 million Mexican Americans, as well as other passionate fans of the Mexican and Spanish soccer leagues, which are growing particularly quickly with the upcoming 2026 World Cup in the three North American countries. The Orlegi USA project is based on the following pillars:

  1. Retail & Academies: Reinforce the retail strategy and similarly promote participation in the Leagues Cup and other events. It currently manages nine soccer academies in the United States with more than 500 students, where it will diversify and strengthen talent recruitment and development.
  2. Organization of tournaments and cups: It currently has multiple sports events in California and Texas, for young people seeking growth and unique experiences that will be expanded and developed with new opportunities.
  3. Commitment to fans in the United States: Strengthen its Fan Model so that fans can experience the day-to-day of Mexican soccer and improve their digital experience.
  4. Commercial Relationships: Establish synergies with American companies to open new business opportunities.
  5. Ganar Sirviendo (Wining by Serving): Grow with the aim of generating value for society to inspire and contribute to continuously building a better community.

Orlegi Sports maintains a strong alliance with Univision, which holds the television rights for its Mexican clubs in the United States. An alliance that brings them even closer to that market and plays a crucial role in their expansion. It also maintains close relationships and collaborations with companies and organizations in the country.

Orlegi Sports currently operates in four countries: the United States, Mexico, Spain, and Ireland, across seven locations (Torreon, Guadalajara, Gijon, Mexico City, Bilbao, Dublin, and Houston).

Always in search of unique opportunities around the world to promote the sustainable growth of the group, and thus generate value for society through its management model.”
